Wichita, KS – Police were called to George Tiller’s late-term abortion mill, Women’s Health Care Services in Wichita, Kansas, this morning after a security guard discovered a “suspicious package” in the day’s mail delivery.

Police blocked off Bleckley Street between Kellogg and Orme around 10:30 AM and did not allow vehicles to enter the abortion clinic. ATF agents and the Wichita Bomb Squad inspected the letter and later determined that it was a packet of religious materials. The clinic was closed until approximately 2:00 PM.

When asked why the clinic was not evacuated, the police indicated that if the letter was an explosive device, it would not have had sufficient strength to penetrate the nearby wall. Police admitted that precautions were being taken that they would normally not take because of the fact that the package was at an abortion mill.

The closure of the abortion mill for three and a half hours was good news for pro-lifers who offered help to the first-trimester abortion patients that were turned away by police.

Operation Rescue missionary Keith Mason spoke with one such patient and directed her to help at a nearby pro-life pregnancy center. That woman changed her mind about having an abortion and decided to keep her baby.

“I believe that this was just a shameless media ploy by Tiller to garner some kind of sympathy in the media, knowing that soon a Grand Jury will be forced to convene to investigate him in the death of Christin Gilbert last year,” said OR spokesperson Cheryl Sullenger. “It would be interesting to know how much money this little public relations show cost the city of Wichita.”

“In any case, it worked out to be a good thing for us because at least one child was saved from abortion that may have died if not for Tiller’s penchant for paranoia and drama,” said Sullenger.
