TURN-AROUND; Donna Lee Mahoney:
At about 10:30 am, The Guadalupe Rosary Crusade for Life was out on-site praying and fasting in support of KCFL's project LPPPA.
Donna Mahoney, a member of the group, was doing sidewalk counseling at the gate. A car carrying a young Hispanic couple, came slowly up Bleckley Street, northbound, intending to drive into Tiller's parking lot. Donna was able to talk them out of going in. Instead this couple went north, and turned east, stopping at the Dopp's Chiropractic Clinic parking lot. They just sat there in their car awhile
for about 45 minutes.
Then, apparently having decided to go ahead with the abortion, they walked from Dopp's parking lot, along the sidewalk where the Crosses are standing, intending again to go into Tiller's facility.
The many members of the Guadalupe Crusade for Life mistook them for local people who came out on-site in prayerful support of Project LPPPA, and they did not even try to stop them, as they walked down the sidewalk and into Tiller's parking lot.
When they were about half way across Tiller's parking lot, Donna noticed them, and called out to them, urging them to come back and continue the talk that they had started previously. The couple agreed, and they walked back out of Tiller's lot.
Seeing this event unfolding on his security system, Tiller's Security Guard, Carl Swinney, apparently mistook the Hispanic Clients for members of the Guadalupe Rosary Crusade for Life. He stormed out of the building, and came out to the gate in a bad mood.
Directing his attention toward the Hispanic couple, Carl angrily yelled at his prospective clients, saying: "IF YOU STEP ACROSS THAT LINE AGAIN, (pointing to the line at the gate, between the sidewalk and Tiller's parking lot), I WILL CALL THE POLICE AND I WILL HAVE YOU ARRESTED!"
The Hispanic couple did not know what to do! They just stood there, and with only limited English-speaking ability, they did not try to clarify things with Carl.
At Donna Mahoney's urging, the Hispanic couple then went directly into Choices Medical Clinic, where they stayed until between 2:30 and 3pm.
When they left Choices, they walked past Tiller's gate to Dopp's parking lot and were not seen again.
NOTE: This is being counted as a Turn-Around rather than a Confirmed Save, because no one on-site at the time that they left Choices, was aware of our need to confirm their decision for our statistical counting reasons.
In any case, this is the first save where we are crediting "an assist" to one of Tiller's security guards! |
